Are you a Chartered Civil Engineer looking to shape the future of regional infrastructure? As our Structures Manager, you will lead the management and maintenance of South Gloucestershire’s highway and open space structures.
From iconic bridges and retaining walls to geotechnical assets, you will ensure the safety and resilience of our network. This is a high-impact leadership role within our Place Operations team, where you will manage capital programmes of up to £3 million annually and contribute to an ambitious £150m infrastructure improvement plan (CRSTS).
What You Will Be Doing
As the designated Bridge Manager and Technical Approval Authority, your responsibilities will include:

Team Leadership: Managing a multi-disciplinary team of senior engineers and technicians, providing expert technical guidance.

Asset Management: Overseeing the inspection, maintenance, and lifecycle planning for bridges, culverts, and road restraint systems.

Strategic Planning: Developing capital and revenue programmes while ensuring compliance with national safety standards and legislation.

Financial Oversight: Managing significant budgets with commercial acumen to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement: Acting as the Bridge Strike Champion and representing the Council at regional and national levels.
What We Need From You
We are looking for a dedicated leader with a blend of technical expertise and commercial focus.

Qualifications: A Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Accreditation: Must be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (ICE or IStructE).

Leadership: An NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) management qualification and proven experience coaching high-performing teams.

Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of highway structures, inspection regimes, and asset management software (e.g., AMX).

Communication: The ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage complex external partnerships.
