Multiple Roles – Principle Structural Engineer and Managing Director

Role 1: Principal Structural Engineer

Salary – £50,000.

Part-time and full-time roles available, based in South-East England or London.

Working from home, with occasional meetings at Head Office in Kent.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Abbott Holliday Partnership is a Structural Engineering consultancy, based in the South-East and specialising in domestic and small commercial clients, operating as a family business for over 45 years. We are now underway with an ambitious programme of investment and growth, and require a number of Principal Structural Engineer (PSE) roles to deal with incoming enquiries, conduct site visits near their location and issue drawings and reports.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Carry out site inspections & surveys, design, calc & drawing work, report-writing

2. Design and specification lead for projects requiring additional expertise

3. Peer-review duties: check reports, drawings and specifications before sending onto client

4. Report to the board of Directors

5. Qualify incoming enquiries, produce quotes and invoices, log jobs on CRM system

6. Work with the board on conference calls to discuss business performance and development

7. Contribute regularly to online diary to keep others informed of commitments

8. Complete online timesheet relating to job reference numbers to allow P&L analysis

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CHARACTERISTICS & COMPETENCIES

1. Chartered Engineer status

2. Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification

3. Well-attuned to latest UK Building Regulations and design standards

4. Communicate clearly in fluent English, spoken and written

5. Prepare clear and detailed drawings for peer reviewing and clients

6. Proficient in Microsoft Word, including paragraph and picture formatting layouts

7. Access to a car and clean driving licence

DESIRED

1. Experience managing staff

2. Familiarity with structural design software and CAD

3. Litigation or expert witness experience (training can be provided)

4. Business development experience

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. Demonstrate common sense in order to scrutinise with a focus on what the client needs

2. Confidence to make conclusive statements in own and peers’ reports

3. Competency to be able to dissect a report and analyse it to the necessary degree

4. Ability to produce high quality reports/drawings, attention to detail, spelling and grammar

5. Possess a can-do attitude and work well with others in the team.

6. Ability to consider and present a solution when bringing a problem to the table

Role 2: Managing Director, Structural Engineering

Salary – £65,000-70,000 + growth target EMI share package

Working from home, with occasional meetings at Head Office in Kent

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Abbott Holliday Partnership is a Structural Engineering consultancy, based in the South East and specialising in domestic and small commercial clients, operating as a family business for over 45 years. We are now underway with an ambitious programme of investment and growth, requiring a Managing Director who will develop and execute our growth strategy, while managing staff and the daily operations of the business. Must have Chartered Engineer status.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and execute the business plan aimed at achieving growth targets

2. Meet and build rapport with our repeat customers and better enable future business

3. Conduct check-in calls with Associate Structural Engineers (ASE), arrange gatherings for staff/ contractors

4. Engineer coverage management and involvement in our recruitment processes

5. Salary review & management

6. Transaction management including invoice & card machine management, client payment

checks via bank access, management & administration of direct debits / standing orders etc

7. Reporting KPIs for routine team calls. Contributing agenda points in this and in Board calls

8. Adjudicate between engineers when there are any situations requiring expertise

9. On-duty Principal Structural Engineers (PSE) scheduling & phone diversion oversight, ensuring full-time coverage

10. CRM system spot-checks and management

11. Fee sheet management and routine fee reviews

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CHARACTERISTICS & COMPETENCIES

1. Chartership with iStructE or ICE

2. Minimum 15 years’ experience having been the lead on structural engineering jobs

3. Experience of team management, preferably with a direct line into a Board of Directors

4. Academic competency and attention to detail

5. Experience of building and executing business plans or at least making impactful contributions towards achieving the goals of a business
