About the Role

This is an outstanding opportunity for a Chartered Structural Engineer (MIStructE or equivalent) to lead high-profile projects, mentor a talented team, and help shape both the design direction and culture of the practice.

You’ll manage projects from concept to completion, contribute to business development, and play a key role in the company’s continued growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse range of structural engineering projects, from concept through delivery.

  • Oversee and support engineers and technicians within a collaborative, organised team.

  • Represent Toynbee Associates in client and design team meetings, building strong, lasting relationships.

  • Maintain high standards of design quality, budget control, and timely delivery.

  • Provide technical leadership in line with current standards, codes, and best practices.

  • Contribute to tenders and business development with creative, commercially minded input.


About You

  • Chartered Structural Engineer (MIStructE or equivalent) with a relevant engineering degree.

  • Proven experience delivering building structures — refurbishments, basements, and extensions highly valued.

  • Confident leading, mentoring, and motivating others.

  • Strong communicator with a practical, solutions-focused mindset.

  • Skilled in AutoCAD, TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, and Oasys GSA. Revit experience desirable.

Location and Working Style

This role can be based in our London (Wandsworth) or Sussex (Steyning) office.
Team members in Sussex typically spend one day per week in London to stay connected with the wider practice.
We operate core hours of 10:00–16:00, supporting flexibility and a healthy work–life balance.
