Senior Structural Engineer – Chorley & Shrewsbury Offices

Thomas Consulting is expanding its portfolio and increasing its workload. We are seeking experienced Senior Structural Engineers to join our teams in Chorley and Shrewsbury. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a varied and challenging role within a multi disciplinary engineering consultancy, working across a wide range of sectors.

The Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will take a leading role in managing multiple projects. You will work closely with clients, ensure the delivery of high quality designs, and support junior engineers through mentoring and guidance. Your responsibilities will include structural design, project coordination, and maintaining technical excellence throughout each stage of a project.

You will be part of a multi office team and will support Principal Engineers and Directors in delivering accredited, industry recognised engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Managing multiple structural engineering projects and maintaining strong client relationships.
Producing detailed calculations, sketches, drawings, and technical specifications.
Designing steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry structures in accordance with Eurocodes.
Completing site visits to ensure construction complies with design requirements.
Preparing technical reports, project documentation, specifications, and risk assessments.
Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to their professional development.
Supporting the commercial aspects of projects, including budgeting and cost estimates.

About You

Essential Skills and Experience

A minimum of three years of structural design experience.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D structural design software.
A strong understanding of Eurocode design for steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
Experience in technical report writing and producing structural calculations.
Commercial awareness relating to project costs, budgets, and quotations.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience with STAAD Pro, SCIA, and Revit.
Project management or leadership experience.
Working towards or nearing Chartered status, for example CEng, MIStructE, or MICE.
