Chartered Structural Engineer

KGAL Consulting Engineers Ltd have a vacancy for a Chartered Structural Engineer to work within their Poole Office as a Finite Element Analyst and Eurocode 3 Specialist providing structural computations in support of the design of hydraulic steel structures and moveable steel bridges.

The successful candidate will report to the Poole Associate Director and shall be required to work closely with the existing incumbent Senior Engineer responsible for Finite Element Analysis/Code-based calculations and to work within a relatively small multi-disciplinary team of Engineers.

The candidate will have an advanced working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and Eurocode-based calculations involved in the design and analysis of large moving steel structures, with emphasis upon Static Linear Elastic, Static Non-Linear Plastic and Dynamic Seismic Analysis.

The normal day to day place of work will be the Poole office with occasional work periods in either the Wakefield or Gloucester corporate offices. While the position will be largely Poole Office based, the candidate may from time to time be expected to accompany other Engineers to client’s premises, factories or site visits to assist in inspections of existing structures or new construction sites.

Site visits outside the Poole Office will mostly be within the UK with very occasional overseas visits.

This position would suit a Chartered Structural Engineer who wishes to expand their industrial working knowledge into a market involving Water Control, Ports and Harbours, Moving Bridges and Hydro Power within a respected niche-specialist consultancy.

This is an opportunity for an individual to become an expert within the ‘Hydraulic Structures’ field.

The candidate shall be required to be at an advanced level with the use of the following software packages:

  • ANSYS or direct equivalent FEA package Essential
  • Mathcad Advantageous
  • Inventor Advantageous
  • Solidworks Advantageous

The candidate shall be required to have an advanced working knowledge of:

  • BS EN 1993 Eurocode 3 Essential (Design of Steel Structures)

The candidate shall have a working knowledge of:

  • British Standards BS EN 1990 and 1090 Essential
  • DIN Standards DIN 19704 Advantageous
  • Seismic Assessment Advantageous
  • ASCE 7 and Eurocode 8
